Almost February
Month Recap:
January has been both a chill and crazy month! The new year started out warm, like almost 60F, which was super crazy for the start of a new year, but the transition easier into the winter season.
We have had a couple crazy snow storms, and also some little snow fluff too! We completed our first home project, we took in a new foster cat, and our babies are getting used to her being in the house.
My choo-choo train hit a stand still when I found out that I needed a new computer, and it took me a couple of days to get out of the hole that it put me in, but I was able to climb out of it and start again.
Coming into the last couple of days of the month, we have had a couple up and downs as well. I'm working on keeping up with my workout/tanning schedule, some days it's tough to get out of bed on time and leave the house (especially on the days that it snows), but it is said that it take time to get into a new routine. We have also been having some issues with our new foster.
Hermione- Foster Cat Issues
We named her Hermione from Harry Potter, but the shelter calls her Kitty Meow Meow. She is three years old, when she was surrendered by her owners at the shelter the owner failed to tell them that she was diabetic, so she lost a lot of weight, started acting super food aggressive, and staggering around their cat sanctuary. After the shelter got her diagonised and settled with a level of insulin, and started to get her adjusted with a strict feeding schedule, we took her in for fostering and things started out great. With our other two cats it's hard to keep them from wanting to explore, smell and see our foster, which meant that we couldn't keep them sepeart for long.
Over the last couple of days we had some constipation issues (we solved that with a teaspoon of pumpkin puree- its a natural probiotic), her not being able to get to the litter box in time to bathroom, and now we are having some behavior issues.
We noticed that she had started going to the bathroom in the same places that she was stopping when we had the constipation issues, and then I caught her tinkling in one of my slippers one night, and then yesterday we both hit our limits with the issue.
I came home after going to the gym and tanning, I was on an endorphin high, and went to change. I walked into my bedroom and I got a noseful of cat pee, and I immediately went to the closet to see if she had peed in any of my other shoes. She had not only peed in my shoes, but had also took a couple number twos; as I was cleaning I had to throw away six pairs of my shoes, my slippers, and I had to wash all of my long dresses.
M hit hers when she was cleaning the litter boxes (Thursday is trash day). M had the poo closet open and the bottom litter box pulled out and uncovered to scoop and refill, 'Mione was helping and waiting for M to put clean litter in the box. 'Mione sniffed and almost got in, but when M turned her back to sweep up the litter 'Mione peed outside the clean box on the floor.
We talked with the ladies at the shelter that are over the cat program and the medical lady, we think that she is not adjusting as well as she should be with all of the changes. When she was on the shelter, she was in medium sized room (but it was the only room) where her litter box and food/water dish was not far from each other, and then the medical lady took her home to keep an eye on her with the insulin, she was confined to a large single room, but with us we gave her full range to our house.
Along with all of the space we gave her, and the change in diet and getting insulin, we also use paper litter instead of clumping clay litter.
So in the next month, we are going to keep her in our guest room so the most of the day, but giving her some time out with the rest of the cats and changing her litter back and slowly switching her over to the paper.
We are hoping, with our fingers crossed that as she starts getting adjusted to her new living environment that her behavior issues and attitude change too.
Positives
Even though we have had some issues, all of this has given us a new project to start. After moving in I started having issues with my closet doors, we don't have actual doors but what is called bypass doors, and the inside slider door would not stay on its rail so we just took it off. Once we took off one of my sliders I only have one door, and we think that because I don't have doors, and I keep my shoes on the floor is why 'Mione was peeing in there. Since that is the reason for the issues, we have decided that our next project is to create me closet doors, and if our idea works we will be creating M a new set of doors for her closet as well.Along with the closet project, we are also working on getting blinds for the windows.
Today we took our first 'date day'; for us that consisted of going to the movies (we saw Doolitte), going to Home Depot to pick up the supplies for the projects, and then taking our new pawpal (dog a the shelter) out for lunch.
